MUKUNDAN UNNI ASSOCIATES - A DARK TAKE ON LIFE

 

The movie is a pathbreaking one in every aspect. It is all about a young well disciplined Mukundan Unni who is yet to taste success in his professional career. The story's main thread relies upon the title characters' actions to bring professional success to his career. 

Mukundan Unni is smart and disciplined working under a senior advocate but has no growth under him. He acts over-smart on one occasion and he was deprived by his senior. He once due to his mother's accident visits the hospital where he unlocks the way to achieve professional success in terms of medical insurance scams. From this point, the movie takes off to unveil some of the dark secrets of the accident and medical insurance scams. 

The movie is a unique attempt in showcasing the dark side of a character. It is one of a kind in Malayalam movies as it belongs to the dark humor type. The actions of the protagonist are unapologetic and cruel and he is only determined to make a profit. The movie doesn't take any stand on the actions of the title character and doesn't seem to justify also. 

This will be a revelation to our talented Vineeth Sreenivasan. The talented all-rounder has depicted a special performance in this one-of-a-kind movie in the Malayalam industry. Nobody believes before watching the movie how his character would turn out to be. Suraj was also good in this movie in which he embraced his past humor shade. Sudhi Kopa made a memorable performance. The female character Tanvi has nothing much to do but she has done what she can. The performance from Arsha in his first movie is almost a show-stealer. Her character is also a unique one that rewrites the usual love story.

The director Abhinav needs much appreciation for his debut movie. The film editor turned director has to be appreciated for the way of storytelling which uses voice-over to much perfection. Surely the director needs to be appreciated for his craft. Vimal the co-writer also needs to be congratulated for such a neat take on a dark humor special movie. 

The movie is special and unique. It is a pathbreaking one in an ever-changing industry like Malayalam. As it was said earlier it is not everyone's cup of tea kind of movie. The film itself asks the viewer 'Are there people like this. The answer is yes as we see in the movie as well as in the news around us.
